Analogue telephone system to close by 2025

BT are in the process of moving all of their customers from the old analogue public switched telephone network (PSTN) to a fully digital network. This means that your current home telephone line will cease to work and you will have no home telephone unless you act quickly.

The plan is to have everyone moved over before Openreach stop the PSTN (and ISDN) service in 2025. By then, every phone line in the UK will be digital, routing calls over the internet via VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) rather than the traditional PSTN.

If you want to continue to have a home telephone, then you must transition to a VoIP telephone system. If you want to retain your current telephone number, then you should consider switching over to a VoIP system as soon as possible to avoid any last minute disappointment in 2025.
